Hey guys!
So I’ve been away for a while; uni has a habit of doing that to you (education and whatnot). I have been doing some recipe research, and I came across some websites that suggest foods that are meant to be good for your kidney, but none of them actually have any good (or yummy) ideas. So until i manage to whisk up some delicious concoction with the foods that have been suggested to me, i will not be posting a recipe this week… sooooorrryyy.
However, since I said that I should be sharing aspects of my life with you, I thought it’d be a good idea to tell you about my trip to Kenya. Is it a good idea? I don’t know, but if you have about 2 minutes to spare – carry on reading!
I was born in Kenya. In fact, I left there when I was 8 years old. I will admit I was a bit sceptical of going back, not for any particular reason I just thought that I would not be able to fit in because I had forgotten the language. How wrong I was! Kenya is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to. The hearts of the people that I came across matched the size of the mangoes (the mangoes were HUGE), me and my family were touched by the willingness to give and to share – especially from those who did not have much.
My cousin took my sister and me to visit a school where we met the sweetest and most humble little girls we have come across. They gave me a whole new outlook on life and made me realize that, yes, I do have “issues” with my kidney, but there are people who have it worse than me. The girls’ parents often could not afford school fees and were never home because they were constantly working, and some of them had torn clothes. But you saw how determined they were to learn and to listen to what we had to say. You saw how much ambition they had, some of them walking miles with no shoes on just to get to class. One of my new year’s resolutions is to take time to enjoy living (cliche for the second blog in a row); yes, being healthy is important, but so is appreciating your environment and those around you.
So, since there will be no cooking today, here are a few pictures of my trip.
Have a great week!
Cathy
