Complementary Therapy Blog, December 2017

Hi Everyone,

I hope you are all keeping well and wrapped up nice and warm.  We have had a number of really wintry, snappy weather over the past couple of weeks so it’s essential you take extra care of yourself.

We are coming to the end of our second year with the Complementary Therapy Project with over 20 Therapists in situ in the Renal Units across the North West. All our Complementary Therapists are Qualified and are Professionals in their field, they give up their time to help and provide therapies to patient’s whilst on dialysis.

Myself and fellow Therapist Belinda Abufares attended the NKF Conference at Hinckley Island Hotel in October. We had lots of interest and gave little mini treatments to attendees. Word is spreading fast about our Therapies in Renal.

November saw a number of visits to local colleges to give presentations and talks to Degree students. Beverley Higham the tutor was most grateful for the insight into therapies in the Renal Unit. She was a tutor of mine when I was doing the degree at Wigan and Leigh Colleges.

The end of this year we have had 58 Therapists interviewed for our position of Volunteer Complementary Therapist’s on the Renal Dialysis unit. There have been 372 treatments carried out at Salford Dialysis unit, 312 carried out at Wigan Dialysis unit and 111 carried out at Bolton Dialysis unit with numbers still counting for Oldham where we have 2 therapists and Rochdale hopefully we will have a therapist in there soon.

So it’s been a pretty busy year.  We hope to see you all soon but in the meantime if you see any of our team with purple and lilac tunics or our male therapists who have purple polo shirts with Complementary Therapist on their tops, just give them a shout if you would like a treatment or if you just need a chat. We are always here for you.

Until next time! See you soon.

DON’T FORGET EVERYONE!
