The regional Renal Centre at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals provides treatment and care for patients across Lancashire and South Cumbria who have kidney (renal) problems such as renal failure, vasculitis, nephrotic syndrome, and anaemia. The centre has a high dependency care unit for patients with single organ failure, and provides vascular surgery, interventional radiology, renal biopsy, plasma exchange, immunosuppressive therapy and dialysis.
Kidney transplants are carried out at Manchester Royal Infirmary, with the Renal Centre providing pre-transplant and post-operation care.
The Renal Centre also provides a range of services and clinics at hospitals throughout the region, enabling patients to access care locally. Some renal services, such as haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis can be given in patients’ homes.
The Renal Centre team comprises specialist consultants and specialist nurses, including transplant nurses.
