Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is responsible for providing hospital services for the people of Bradford and communities across Yorkshire. We serve a core population of around 600,000 people and provide specialist services for some 1.1 million.

Our 5,500 staff work over several sites, including Bradford Royal Infirmary, which provides the majority of inpatient services, and St Luke’s Hospital, which predominantly provides outpatient and rehabilitation services. We also manage local community hospitals at Eccleshill, Westwood Park, Westbourne Green, and Shipley.

Renal services in Bradford and Airedale are provided by a multidisciplinary team. Our aim is to provide a high quality patient-centred service which provides the best possible outcomes for all those who require kidney care in the Bradford and Airedale region.

Our main base is at Bradford St Luke’s Hospital but the team also supports activities at Bradford Royal Infirmary, Airedale General Hospital and Skipton Hospital. We look after more than 300 dialysis patients and nearly 400 transplant patients in addition to a large number of patients with a wide variety of kidney conditions.

We provide a full range of kidney care services:

Haemodialysis – an outpatient service at St Luke’s Hospital or Skipton Satellite Unit

Home haemodialysis and perioneal diaysis – training is given to the patient to manage their own dialysis at home.

Kidney transplantation – this is performed in our regional transplant centre in Leeds, but patients then return to Bradford for their follow-up care.

Conservative care – supportive care for our patients when there is a shared view not to pursue dialysis treatment
