About York KIN

The York Kidney Information Network (YorkKIN) is an independent network to provide accurate information, guidance, and support to kidney patients and those around them. It complements and links up with other ongoing kidney health related programmes and projects in the North Yorkshire area, such as the recently developed Kidney Patient Peer Support Network and a Patient and Carer Education Event called Pre-Dialysis START, both offered by York and Scarborough Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

York KIN is a patient-led network, which complements the care offered by the hospital’s kidney care team. York KIN enables patients and carers to share their lived experiences, get answers to non-medical questions and access information, advice, guidance and support.

The York KIN consists of:

Our Stories

What members tell us about York KIN

“York has a robust patient centred multidisciplinary team. This team has developed several programs designed to improve patient engagement – Have your say meetings, patient reference groups, dialysis start meetings, shared haemodialysis care. This program builds on our team strengths and capitalises on the energy that Andy and his fellow peers bring to our MDT. Together, we can understand our patients’ lived experience of their illness/treatment and build better pathways to improve their care.”

Dr Laboi
Kidney Consultant in York

“I am a keen advocate of patients having a greater understanding and involvement in their care, this includes working with health care professionals to help improve our quality of life and their quality of work.”

Andy Henwood
Transplanted Kidney Patient

“In my experience there are two things that make a huge difference to people affected by chronic kidney disease: connecting with other peers, who understand what they are going through, and having a ‘go-to’ place to find up-to-date and reliable answers to their questions around their condition and treatment, that will alleviate uncertainty. The new Kidney Information Network Site for York and surrounding areas offers a ‘hub’ that does both, and I am excited to see it grow and develop!”
